Gun Violence

Each day, 100 Americans die from gun violence, with many more injured. American women – our mothers, wives and daughters – are 11 times more likely to be murdered with a gun than women in other developed countries. In 2018, 4.2 million school children experienced a lock-down situation where they felt that someone was roaming the halls of their school intent on killing them. Today, we can buy active shooter insurance. It is indefensible and unacceptable. We are better than this.

As Kentuckians, we can still support the Second Amendment, while promoting responsible gun ownership and common-sense efforts to reduce gun violence. I support mandatory background checks on gun purchases, training in the safe use of firearms, and initiatives that keep guns away from those who are violent or unstable.
